White Furniture? Really?

Saturday, July 11th, 2009

Since the sofa won’t be coming with us, I’ve been spending a little time exploring the online showrooms for Ikea and other discount (and non-discount) furniture shops. Probably won’t be able to act on it anytime soon, but its a nice distraction. (I’m convinced you need just a hint of schizophrenia to survive long term layoffs and unemployment. A dash of denial helps too. You should try it.)

Either way, a girl can dream. So I select “Living Room” and “Sofas.” Page after page after endless page of…. White upholstery?? Are they serious? Or is this a covert and elaborate economic stimulus package to fix our economy via cleaning services?

Behold! The brave Maasi hunter enters the fluffy, white savanna of the living room. He spies his prey, the vile kitty cat who mauled his G.I Joe not a day before. Slowly he approaches. Within range, he springs over the arm of the sofa. His shoes leave black scuffs of great justice and a flurry of shed fur as the villain flees. His sippy cup falls, scattering drops of grape juice like rich, purple blood upon the pristine whiteness.

And lo! The great domestic goddess solves it all with a call to Stanley Steamer, the carpet cleaners! Yet another push towards economic recovery! Yippie! Praise be the soldiers of economic recovery!

Okay, someone level with me. The person(s) who came up with this trend are those strange, ultra clean people… aren’t they?

You know, the ones who don’t have pets, kids, or deal with the occasional chucklenut who couldn’t hold a glass if his life depended on it. They obviously never have to sleep or take a nap on the couch either. Probably never had to deal with a leaky diaper either… be it adult or infant.

To be fair, they had a few options for most of the sofas: Granny Floral, cream, beige, and ecru. A few offered bizarre, eye-searing plaids and baby-vomit pastels (think the early 90s) just for giggles.

Thanks for the laugh, designers! I really needed that. But can you show me the real upholstery now?

Meme: What chair do you game from?

computer_chair

My ancient, battered, but oh-so-comfortable computer chair. The cats used to scratch the arms when they were kittens, so the arms have huge holes in the upholstery. I threw a scrap of polar fleece over the right arm. Someday I’ll replace it.

Hyperactive Rambles

Monday, May 18th, 2009

Yes, I have a bad case of ADHD today. Probably doesn’t help I’m listening to my most hyper of my music right now either. (I just got a Last.fm account.)

Ever since mom lost her job, I’ve been in a very strange mood. On one hand, I’m very nostaligic — remembering things I used to love and things from my childhood — and on the other, I’ve thrown out a lot of things that should have made me very nostalgic. My Ronin Warrior tapes… the ones I fought so hard to get? Out with the trash a couple weeks ago. I’ll buy the DVDs someday. Trading cards and comics? To Goodwill, baby!

I have this huge box of vintage My Little Pony stuff ready to go out with the trash next week. (Before anyone has kittens, it’s the houses and accessories. They’re nasty, yellowed, brittle, and filled with dead bugs and mouse droppings.)

By the way… if anyone knows anyone who turns old My Little Ponies into art, let them know I have close to 100 I would be willing to sell. I cross-posted this a million places. ^^;

Job Scams… since I have my resume up on Monster.com and Career Builder, I keep getting these hilarious e-mail scams. “Work from home! Give us your bank account information! All you have to do is cash checks for us!” lol Or my favorite “Unlimited earning potential! Just send us a check for $1000 and we’ll send you our guaranteed training materials!” Latest one made it sound like it was from a bank, but when you followed the link, it went to a web site in the Czech Republic. *shakes her head*

What’s sad is there’s probably a disturbing number of people that go for those.

Anyway, in the mood I’m in expect another spam… err… blog post in another hour. (Raid tonight can’t come fast enough… give me something to focus on.)

One of my guildies shared this one on our guild board. If you have a cat (or probably any kind of pet for that matter) you know this one FAR too well. XD

Livejournal Icons: Public Journal; Private Post

Monday, December 3rd, 2007

I’ve been spending a lot of time trolling LiveJournals icon and graphics journals and I’ve come up with a new pet peeve: People keep posting icons to a public journal, but making the actual post friends-only.

My response? …eh, why? You gotta have some really good icons for me to waste my time friending a journal I might not come back to.

It’s not like it actually stops anyone from stealing the icons. I frequently steal icons from other people’s profiles, especially if they have credit to the original artist up. (That’s where and how I got the Hello Kitty icon on the LiveJournal version of this post.)

I know Jass has said that before, but I guess I’m saying it again.

Ah, whatever.

Anyway, got my profile looking spiffy, now I get to read through a bunch of resource journals to figure out how to make my layout a reality.

Ten Things that make you happy

Saturday, December 1st, 2007

Ook tagged me for this one. ^^; “Rules are easy, just post 10 things that recently made you happy! Tag 10 people and force them to post this meme on their LJs.”

  1. Getting a postcard from Ookami. (Squee! I luff postcards!)
  2. Coming up with a layout for my LJ and having it work for once.
  3. Finding Pocky at the local supermarket! (Squee2!!)
  4. Finding my favorite Jpop artists on (USA) iTunes.
  5. Finally becoming eligible for health insurance.
  6. Receiving a phonecall regarding my portfolio.
  7. Shino, Kiba, and Hinata finally showing up in Naruto Shippuden anime/manga.
  8. Sai and Yamato making their appearances in Naruto Shippuden.
  9. Talking about current video games with Jorge at work.
  10. Finding a few fun, quirky gifts for Christmas.

I have no idea who to tag for this one, since I have most of the same friends as ook. ^^;

Gackt on iTunes

Sunday, October 21st, 2007

Oh yes, I am interrupting my vanishing act to announce I burnt a portion of my paycheck on iTunes. After all this time, they finally have Gackt on iTunes. *grooves*

Too bad I want to order some more… necessary… things before I go to work tonight, like clothes. ^^;;

I bought Lust for Blood, Mizerable, Redemption, Longing, Returner, and Vanilla. I made myself stop there, since I already bought a bunch a ton of other songs Friday.

Someday, I shall have to work a weekend so my coworkers can find out just how eclectic my playlist really is. Muahaha! XD

Blast from the Past

Sunday, August 26th, 2007

Hey, guys? Remember this? Muahaha!

(Scroll down and click “Continue” to view, because this is very NSFW — or humanity for that matter.)

Wow, its’ been a while since I last blogged. I’m/we’re doing fine. Not sure if I’m ever going to get used to working nights, though. But having extra money is very nice. I’ve bought more clothes in the past few months than I have in years.

The car decided to start having troubles last week, so that ate an amount of our savings.

Anyway, I have housework I need to get on and then I need to sleep so I can work tonight.

Much love. ♥

Warm Weather

Monday, March 26th, 2007

Holy crap — it’s been warm here in Michigan. I’ve been wearing shorts for the past few days. Right now it’s 70° F / 21° C outside and even warmer inside.

Normally, we don’t get this weather until maybe May or June, so this has been nice. It’s been a couple days since the furnace has run and we’ve been able to get some Spring Cleaning done. (You have no idea how badly the house stinks until you get some fresh air in!)

I’m trying to get back in the habit of blogging. I may not able able to get on IM very often anymore, but at least I can blog.

Back when the domain was down, I joined the Official Naruto Thread on Gaia Online. Now I’m officially addicted. Not the best situation when you have finals due and are known for procrastination. Now I really don’t want to get back to work.

Missing supplies

Friday, October 13th, 2006

I would kill to know what happened to my beading supplies.

I have a huge ball of hemp, a large container of wooden beads, and a bunch of other little things missing right now. I can see losing or leaving the small stuff behind somewhere, since some of it was in small envelopes… but the hemp and wood beads would be hard to miss. Knowing me, I probably threw them into some random box the night before the movers arrived.

Now that I have a web cam, I can (maybe) take a few pictures of my jewelry to put up on my DA account before I sell them for Christmas money.

I really hope I didn’t loose them, I don’t want to replace everything.

I finally learned why I had to have my own camera for that speech class. It’s going to be held online apparently, so I won’t be able to share the school’s camera. Kind of curious to see how that’s going to work.

So far, I’m passing my classes, though I’m routinely staying up until 4am trying to get everything done or waiting for things to upload to the school server. (Which gives a totally new definition to the word “slow” — I’d hate to see what would happen if I wasn’t on cable.) I think I’ve discovered the fate of Computer Science majors: Sleep is for weaklings; caffiene is king.

What have I gotten myself into??
