White Furniture? Really?

Saturday, July 11th, 2009

Since the sofa won’t be coming with us, I’ve been spending a little time exploring the online showrooms for Ikea and other discount (and non-discount) furniture shops. Probably won’t be able to act on it anytime soon, but its a nice distraction. (I’m convinced you need just a hint of schizophrenia to survive long term layoffs and unemployment. A dash of denial helps too. You should try it.)

Either way, a girl can dream. So I select “Living Room” and “Sofas.” Page after page after endless page of…. White upholstery?? Are they serious? Or is this a covert and elaborate economic stimulus package to fix our economy via cleaning services?

Behold! The brave Maasi hunter enters the fluffy, white savanna of the living room. He spies his prey, the vile kitty cat who mauled his G.I Joe not a day before. Slowly he approaches. Within range, he springs over the arm of the sofa. His shoes leave black scuffs of great justice and a flurry of shed fur as the villain flees. His sippy cup falls, scattering drops of grape juice like rich, purple blood upon the pristine whiteness.

And lo! The great domestic goddess solves it all with a call to Stanley Steamer, the carpet cleaners! Yet another push towards economic recovery! Yippie! Praise be the soldiers of economic recovery!

Okay, someone level with me. The person(s) who came up with this trend are those strange, ultra clean people… aren’t they?

You know, the ones who don’t have pets, kids, or deal with the occasional chucklenut who couldn’t hold a glass if his life depended on it. They obviously never have to sleep or take a nap on the couch either. Probably never had to deal with a leaky diaper either… be it adult or infant.

To be fair, they had a few options for most of the sofas: Granny Floral, cream, beige, and ecru. A few offered bizarre, eye-searing plaids and baby-vomit pastels (think the early 90s) just for giggles.

Thanks for the laugh, designers! I really needed that. But can you show me the real upholstery now?

One of my guildies shared this one on our guild board. If you have a cat (or probably any kind of pet for that matter) you know this one FAR too well. XD

Sigh

*hugs* Thanks everyone for your support.

Well, my fight with Netbunch is getting me nowhere. They finally canceled my account after I wrote them and informed them that I would be reporting them to the BBB.

I am apparently reached the end of what I can do with them. In my first letter, I informed them that I had written and specifically requested that my account be canceled. Three e-mails later, I’m told that they’re “sorry” (bullshit) that my account was auto-billed. Did I tell them to cancel my account? *head-desk* YES, you idiot! I told you three months ago to cancel my account! I wrote them back and informed them that yes, it had, gave the support ticket number, and the person’s name who responded.

And that is it. They stopped responding. I swear, this is shades of AOL.

I suppose it’s officially time to begin my dialogue with the BBB and my credit card. yay. really. i’m really, super excited. …*sigh* I hate phone menus…

I probably should just buckle down and get an account with Paypal so I can begin accepting donations.

I suppose I should expect this, if you do a web search on Netbunch or Webhostplus and you get tons of results from people like me who have been burned by them. That’s probably one of the reasons they keep changing names every year or so. (My first suspicion being that they’re doing it to try and hide from the BBB/Attourney General due to the number of complaints they keep getting.)

Either way, avoid Netbunch / Webhostplus / Mesopia like the plague. If they buy out your hosting company, find a new one QUICK. They aren’t a good (or particularly safe) company to go with.

The hell!?

*growls* Remember three months ago when I moved my server? Remember how I said I canceled my services with that old host?

Guess what? I just checked my old Jinxandjedi yahoo account where I used for my old domain’s contact e-mail. I was thinking I could safely let it die. When they answered my cancelation e-mail, I removed all my credit card and contact information. They didn’t need it anymore.

Instead, I checked it this afternoon and guess what I discovered?

Note the date that I indicate with the blue arrow; they’ve been charging our credit card for three months. What’s more, they charged me $12 for renewing my domain which they don’t even have anymore! All my credit card information was back on the account, even though I deleted it. But for some strange reason they had my address mostly correct too and I didn’t even give it to them!!! (They had me listed as #17; I’m at #47)

As soon as I calm down I’m writing a complaint to the BBB and seeing if the bank can refuse any and all future charges from those assholes. Originally, I wasn’t even going to bother, but now I’m absolutely livid!

I was hacked

Monday, December 12th, 2005

Well, after much hunting, I finally discovered what had happened.

Apparently, someone had hacked into Jasson’s Gutter Club and had created a hidden directory. Inside that hidden directory was the spam form.

So, I’m sorry Jass — but it had to go. The gutter directory has been completely nuked.

Frankly, I’m about ready to hand off my Flea fanlisting to someone too. I can’t afford to have some idiot hacking into my site, just for the purpose of sending spam. Since they use the same system (PHPfanbase 2.0), Flea is at risk too. Though probably not as much risk as the idea of an Adult Humor fanlisting.

What’s more, I visit the site to see if maybe there’s a patch and I discover a rather cryptic post set right around the time I had all those hacking problems declaring that there’s security issues, but they won’t go into any details.

Well, screw it. Netbunch never did get back to me, they deleted my support ticket and have basically ignored every request for help I made. I need a new host…

Damnit, leave me alone!

My host is on the fast track to being fired / reported to the BBB.

In November, I had a bunch of hackers trying to break into my copy of eFiction. I managed to get the archive updated, patched, and remodified so it works fairly decently.

Now, I have some spammer using my domain’s catch all e-mail address for his spam campaign. He’s put it as the return address for his current campaign, so all returned e-mails are going to MY account.

I found out because my e-mail was slow and I needed to send a quick note to Bender. Thinking something was up, I opened up my browser and noticed my site was acting buggy. I went to my Webmail and BOOM. 7000 returned e-mails.

Thinking it was the hackers exploiting my site again, I deleted all contact forms. Nope, didn’t touch it. Put them back up. I managed to slow it down my installing some e-mail blockers and filters on my Webmail, but I still easily end up deleting 1000 e-mails a day.

So behold – well over 10,000 returned e-mails in 48 hours. ( I lost count after 10,000) My bandwidth is being eaten alive (I’m up to a whole gig) and it’s only the 9th of December. I’ve removed all downloads and extras to help protect my bandwidth, as well as further compressing my images to make them smaller.

On the 7th, I wrote a very panicked e-mail post to the Netbunch support forums begging for help in stemming this flood. Nothing. I send in a support ticket the next morning – nothing.

I repost a less panicked version of my post and bump my old one as well as submitting a new ticket with more information. I finally get a response: I get yelled at for spamming. My first support ticket is deleted, my first post is locked, my second post is deleted. It’s been 2 days since I heard from anyone and the e-mails keep coming.

I’m going to wait until tomorrow morning before I post a followup to my support ticket and inform them that I still need help. Then, if nothing else happens I’m submitting a complaint to the BBB regarding this shit. As soon as tax returns come back, Mom and Jass are talking very seriously about moving the site to a new host.

Sure, it’s a cliche, but I have to wonder when I became flypaper for freaks.

My life, in a pixel

Well, the mess with Mesopia went easier than I thought it would. Still no word back on my domain, well, unless you just count the receipt of them charging us $12 for the domain. *sighs*

Today was a massive grocery getting day, a quick attempt to fill up the pantry until we can get another chance to catch out breath.

Well, it didn’t last long. Apparently, mom didn’t think for the last rent check she wrote and it bounced. All of five days before she cashed her next paycheck. Since I’ll be the only one home tomorrow, I suppose it’s up to me to go talk to the landlords and beg forgiveness for the check. I don’t remember for sure, but I seem to recall seeing a note in the rules we agreed to that says we now have to pay via money order. Oh well, that’s for tomorrow.

(Waiiit… wasn’t I avoiding money matters?)

First week of college went okay, I’m pretty sure I can do this. The group project they want for this next week is a little scary, but everyone seems pretty nice. I really didn’t do anything today with it, so tomorrow I have to check the class message boards again and make myself known.

It’s hilarious, Jass and I have become lurkers on every MB on the planet… with the exception of the school boards. Thing is, since we’re not appearing in person, we have to make significant posts in order to be considered “participating.” But it’s not that hard, the instructors give you essay questions you have to answer almost every day and since everyone is so nice; chit-chat is easy too.

The academic advisors already have my summer classes picked out. I get to take Composition II, Human Relations, File Management, and Internet and the WWW. Composition II sounds okay, I’ve needed it for a while and I’m not sure what to make of Human Relations. But taking me through Files and a introduction to the internet is just, well…. funny?

Yeah, my blog isn’t pretty anymore. I HAD to upgrade wordpress. So tomorrow, after the walk to the office and then school, I’ll settle down and rework my poison layout to work with the new version. I tried to get the LiveJournal auto-update program to work with Wordpress, but it’s not compatable. So, I’m still crossposting.

Much love to everyone

What is it with me and renewing my domain for another year?

Each and every year, it’s a battle to get everything taken care of. Last year, they took my money and didn’t renew. This year, I’m trying to transfer my domain to GoDaddy and my domain is locked.

Ive had it with Mesopia/Dr2.net… Dr2.net went poof after they had a complaint filed against them with the BBB and “merged” with another hosting company called Mesopia.

And I don’t have time now, with school starting, to play the usual games with them. I have two large assignments due Tuesday and I also have my first test.

As for school, it’s going okay. I started Thursday, getting some of the general ed stuff out of the way first. I’m not used to doing this anymore *whine* ^^;;

I know I haven’t been too much of a friend lately and I’m sorry for that. Much love to everyone

Fanlisting

Friday, December 3rd, 2004

Well… since Jasson couldn’t get his Fanlisting in, I decided to try my hand… this time as a Flea (Chrono Trigger) fanlisting. Once we have a few going, I’ll probably make a separate collective site so all our Fanlistings and Cliques… maybe offer up hosting for a few select fanlistings just to fill it out.

Now just to come up with a layout for Flea’s shrine once I get approved. I’m probably going to do an Iframe yet again, but the images are going to be hard. He’s a crossdressing magician from Chrono Trigger, but only really has one Official Artwork and a ton of sprites. Hmm… this is going to be interesting!

In the meantime, I’ve joined a bunch of fanlistings myself and am going to be joining a few more as the week progresses.

WordPress

Thursday, November 11th, 2004

Wordpress is going to give me hissy fits! I swear to God.

But Jasson’s right… how long before someone hacks us using our ancient copies of GreyMatter?

*sigh*

Anyway, it’s up and working… still want my damn scrollbars to show up as pink and I have this weird overflow problem, though. Oh well, can’t win them all, can I?

Edit: Mmmmm-kay. XD That was an easy fix! lol Jass, I figured it out! Delete the schtuff at the top! ^_~
